We return from the holidays with the data from last July: the Camino is reborn, the wishes and dreams of thousands of pilgrims are already being fulfilled !!
In July, 33,962 pilgrims collected the Compostela: 17,464 women and 16,498 men. Of them 31,762 traveled the Camino on foot; 2,148 by bicycle, 33 by sailing, 13 on horseback and 6 by wheelchair.
The nations of origin were: 25,750 Spain; 1,234 Italy 1,234; 1,130 Portugal; 862 France; 830 Germany; 748 USA; 355 Poland; 277 Czech Republic; 233 Mexico; 195 Belgium; 194 Holland; 129 Argentina; 125 Denmark; 125 Colombia; 119 United Kingdom; 113 Switzerland; 100 Venezuela; 98 Puerto Rico; 95 Romania; 91 Slovakia.
The most traveled was the French Way (18,869); followed by Central Portuguese (5,863), English (2,155); the North (2,148); Primitive (2,110); Portuguese by the Coast (1,457); the Vía de la Plata (648); Muxía-Fisterre (319); other roads (262); Winter Road (131).
The main starting points were: Sarria, Tui, Ferrol, Oporto, Oviedo, O Cebreiro, S.J.P.D.P., Ponferrada, Lugo, León, Valença, Roncesvalles, Irún, A Guarda, Astorga, Vigo, Villafranca, Ourense and Ribadeo.
There were no incidents and the pilgrims who arrived in Santiago did so following the hygiene and safety regulations and respecting the restrictions. In all of Spain and, particularly, in Galicia and Compostela, the situation has improved a lot, it now being possible to spend the night in all the centers of the Camino, use the hotel services, pick up the Compostela, attend the Pilgrim’s Mass and visit the cathedral. Most of the public and private hostels are open.
